About Dr. Nic

Dr. Nicola Robinson

PhD MPhil BSc(Hons) 

In 2012 Dr. Nic provided physiology services to the British Paralympic Swimming Team in the 12 months leading up to London Games and then provided poolside support and project management for the following Paralympic events; World Championships 2013 and European Championships 2014 under the English Institute of Sport. Her previous roles also include Programme Manager of Tournament Golf College’s BSc degree in Sport Science & Business which also invloves providing sport science support and academic lectures for elite amateur golfers in Europe.  Her most recent position is Programme Leader for the BSc programme in Sport Coaching at Liverpool John Moores University focusing research on training loads in multi-displicplinary youth athletes. 

Prior to her profession in Sport Science, Nic was an elite Modern Pentathlete competing for Great Britain at World Cup level and also in the run-swim-run sport of Biathle gaining two bronze Junior World Medals, two Bronze Senior World Medals and one Silver European medal. Her sports background has also led her into Triathlon (swim, bike, run) where she has finished 4th Sprint Triathlon European Championships 2011, and top 15 in Worlds 2012, 2013 and Europeans 2015.

Nic graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with her PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology in elite multi-discipline athletes producing numerous research papers specifically on elite cardio vascular remodelling with training. During this research period Nic worked alongside British Wheelchair Basketball, England Squash, British Athletics and British Canoe and Kayak.  Nic has extensive knowledge in the areas of training load management, warm up preparations, training with altitude, elite sleep and more recently research into elite amateur golfers circadian rhythms and performance.

There has also been some physical challenges Nic has achieved including mountain biking across Mexico and swimming the English Channel. Nic also is well known for her coaching in Lancashire with the North West Biathle Hub, where she coaches children as young as 7 up to masters 70 years plus in the run-swim-run discipline, where for the past 6 years her athletes have qualified and achieved medals at European and World Championships.
